The Domesday Book may not be hugely useful as a Genealogical Research Tool because of name spelling morphs through the ages, but how freaking awesome is it to browse through this 2-Volume Domesday Book written almost 1000 years ago?
With a quill!!!
The work was a giant 2-book survery of land and property ownership commissioned by William the Conquerer. It was completed in August 1086 and includes 13,418 settlements in much of England and part of Wales.
The digitized Domesday Book is available free online, has been fully mapped and is searchable by County or Name.
Definately worth the browse.
